I've added a pic of a quilt top that I'm working on at the moment. I want to add a border but at the moment I'm drawing a blank on what to do for it. Anyone have any ideas?
Gratitudes:
1. For the wonderful rains North Tx has had over the last couple of weeks, and thankfully no damage from them!
2. For friends who are willing to let me stay with them if I need a place to live once I'm out of this house if I'm still unemployed at that time.
I see two possibilities. A black narrow border followed by another light border. Another could be, depending on how much energy you have and how many squares are still around, to make a border of 4 patches, not necessarily the same size as the ones in the quilt, and then another light border. You could even do hsts so that it looks like twisted ribbon, if you have lots of hsts lying around, or are in the mood to make some.
ReplyDeleteDo you want to add a border to make the quilt bigger or because the design feels unfinished to you? I think it could be lovely with some plain borders . . . and because I don't trust computers to get the colors right, I'm guessing here, but how about a narrow orangey-red (like in the print) to pop that color, then another narrow border in your background fabric, then a wide dark border to frame and finish the quilt?
ReplyDeleteIf you feel like more piecing, some half-square triangles or flying geese could be nice . . .
I agree with Sophie -- it depends on the purpose for adding another border. You could always put a small border of the dark green around it if you didn't want to add another color, or maybe some more of the other fabric (I can't tell what it is in the photo -- looks like maybe atlas- or map-printed fabric??). I'll show my mom the photo and have her give her advice, because it looks fine like that to me -- I don't know how best to add on to it. :)
ReplyDeleteWith a patchwork center like that I like a nice wide light border with an applique vine - if that's what you like to do. I really enjoy applique. Its so relaxing. May antique quilts were done in that style.
