ScrapHappy July 2025

  Welcome to Scrap Happy Day where we post about the scrappy projects we've worked on over the past month.

Final scrappy project for the month was this toddler sized quilt.  Made with 5" finished squares of assorted frog fabrics left from alphabet quilts I'd made years ago, and from a swap with others.   White squares were all from a lot of solid white scraps and remnants.  Next photos a larger pic of the 5 frog prints I used up.

Next up was more piecing of bits and pieces of various white, WOW and other light toned fabrics.   Top one in the pic to the right was actually made from 2 scraps of bias tape.  Eventually I'll add the wonder under to the back of these and then cut postcard backs from them.

And the final bunch of scrappy goodness for this month was spent in finishing off a bunch of scrappy bowl cozies that I'd prepped more than a yr ago, probably at least 18 months or 2 yrs.

All total 18 cozies were finished up.    All were made with scraps (some from my stash, some bought in scrap bags like the prints to the right).   Batting squares in the cozies were cut from scraps of batting leftover from quilts (I've been using Warm 100 by Warm & Natural lately because it is 100% cotton, even the scrim).   These will either end up as gifts or being sold.

I was able to make 7 matching cozies with this lovely sunflower fabric.   It was the leftover bit from what had been a border print.   I forget what I had used the original for, might have been a quilt back.

The last bunch of cozies were made from scraps of Coca-cola brand fabric, along with scraps of various red and black fabrics.  

Backs were all cut from a remnant of red TOT print that was leftover from another project.  The pieced fronts were all quilted before making the cozies since that they were pieced from small pieces.

Gratitudes - 

1. The mobile sold!!!!
Closing should have been on 6/30, but due to unforeseen issues on the buyers part ended up delayed.  Sale finally closed on 7/07.   I'm so thankful to not have that to deal with with anymore.

2. I have a new AC at the house which replaced the 14 yr old one that decided to die just as the temps rose to 118 degrees.  I'm looking forward to seeing if it makes a difference in my power bill.

3. Thankful also for my work computer because my personal laptop has decided it was on life support....sigh, time to go shopping for a new one.

It's a Picnic Blog Hop My Day- July 19th

This month's project used fabrics that I'd bought both as a scrap bag and as  the last remnant of fabric on clearance at my local quilt store.

Cozies were made with fabrics I thought appropriate for picnics.   Now lest you think cozies are only good for hot stuff.....not so!   Here in Phoenix, when it is pushing close to 120 degrees, this is the time of the year to use cozies to help keep your bowls of ice cream cold longer while you eat it....well, unless you really enjoy drinking melted ice cream.  ;-)

First up was this set made with beer themed fabric.   One side was pieced with scraps of 2 different fabrics from a scrap bag bought about a year ago.  The second side was made from a remnant that was bought later. While I don't drink beer, I know lots of people do.  

The second set of cozies were made from a panel that was bought as a remnant in the clearance section of my local quilt store.   The panel was comprised of 8 10 inch squares, so is perfect for cozies. I bought the remnant which was 2 panels, so still have 12 more squares to use for something else.   And I thought the picnic theme was perfect for this blog hop.    The cozies were backed a red Kona that was bought as a remnant.

I'm hoping to sell the cozies at some point.

1. For good friends who are willing to sacrifice their time (and gas to drive down the mountain) to help me work on cleaning out the house I've inherited.

Scrap-Happy February 2022

Sigh, another month gone and even less sewing done. Lots has been going on - helping my dad by working on clearing out clutter and other stuff in his house, the new job (boy am I not used to getting up at 5 am anymore for work!), trying to get things done where I'll be moving into hopefully in a months time............and a teensy bit of sewing. 

This month I've managed to get get 4 more cozies made for the order of 16.   That makes me halfway finished with the order.

Cut fabrics for the next 6 cozies from the leftover fabrics of previous orders.

I've been doing lots of juicing of lemon juice and then freezing the juice into cubes because what will be my new place has a lemon tree and it is prolific, with lemons the size of my hands.  Each cube is roughly 1 ounce of juice, and I've filled the trays 2 times so far.   More to go.
