ScrapHappy July 2023

Almost forgot to post this month with all that has been going on this past week.   The memorial service for my dad was this morning so once again I can think.

Lots of scrappy piecing this month with scraps I'd received from a friends mom's stuff.   First up were 30+ of these 6" by 10" finished string pieced blocks.   I'm still debating about how to set them into a quilt.

Next up were these 15 patch blocks in the same size.   I've got a vision in mind for these, but am trying to use remnants for setting blocks....and not set on fabrics yet.   May need to make more of the pieced blocks, won't know till I decide on a layout.

Until next month, stay cool in the heat of summer.

Gratitudes:
1. For ac in the 118+ degree temps here in Phoenix.

2. For all the friends and coworkers of my dad that came out to the memorial service this morning.

ScrapHappy March 2023

Lots of scraps were played with this month, in a variety of projects.   These two postcards had been started several years ago.   pulled a long ago completed piece of cross-stitch, and one of the many embellishments I've stashed for postcards out and finished them up.  Not the fanciest ones I've ever done, but better done that still languishing in a tote unfinished.

2 more quilted postcards were finished up.   And another piece of cross-stitch out of the UFO tote.  The postcard on the right was made with the remnant of a pieced strip someone had given me years ago.
Got this Scrappy quilt top made.   Dog prints were scraps I'd cut from scraps years ago, black & white prints were from scraps I'd been using in the other two B/W quilts I have in progress currently.   Setting triangles and borders were from remnants.
Quilted and bound this scrappy quilt.   Top was made several years ago.  So glad to have it out of the multitude of UFO tops I have.
Backing was a remnant that was border print.

Last but not the least, was this little beaded ornament that I managed to get stitched.  Started with what I thought was a full Mill Hill Ornament Kit, only to figure out that all I had was the pattern, picture, and a few beads....oops.   Have not idea how that happened because I don't remember making it at anytime.  I was determined tho to make this "kit" so I sent digging through my stash of 'scrap' beads, aka all the beads i'd save from kits that I'd made years ago.   Ended up with 3 or 4 different colors of red, but I like this better than it would have been.

And don't forget to check out what everyone else has been doing this month with their scraps:

More snails

More snail blocks have been made this week.  All started with orphan blocks.  Three finish at 15" wide by 12" tall, and the two smaller ones finish at 9" tall by 13.5" wide.   All fabrics used are either scraps or from remnants (which counts as scraps in my book....lol).

I have one more orphan block pulled that will make one of the larger blocks of these shown here.

I'm thinking that I need to start laying them out  and assembling where I can so I can start figuring out what size I need for filler blocks and making those as well.

Gratitudes:

1. So far we still have insurance here at work............

2. We're getting the first paycheck from Feb today (will still be behind one tho as of tomorrow)

Scrap Happy October

While looking for something else I ran across several bags of squares that I'd cut from scraps years ago, so long that I've forgotten exactly when I cut them.   I do know I've moved them 3-4 times so that's at least 5 yrs now.

Rather than put them away again I decided to actually use them, so I drew up this scrappy quilt to help use up the red & blue squares that I found.

First step though was to work with the scrap strips and strings that I had of various COC's to make strip sets and string blocks to use in the quilt.

Once they were trimmed to size, I started making 4-Patches from the red and blue squares.   Blocks are 6" finished.
Once I got a bunch of them made I started putting them together to see how the quilt would look.

Stats at this point for fabric counts -

COC's - 79 or 80

Red's and Blue's - about 30-35 each.

I stopped at this point in order to make more of the 4-patches.  I should be able to finish it up this coming week by sewing on it before I head to work in the mornings.

It most likely will be donated to American Hero's.

Gratitudes:

1. For being able to drive safely in yesterdays torrential rains while I was out running around.

2. For the new roof that was put on before I moved in here.
