ScrapHappy - December 2025

Welcome to Scrap Happy Day where we post about the scrappy projects we've worked on over the past month.

Be sure to check out what everyone else has done with their scraps this month - KateEvaSue, Lynda, Birthe, Turid, Tracy, JanMoira, SandraChrisAlysClaireJeanDawnGwen, Sunny, Kjerstin, SueL,  Vera, Ann, Dawn2, Carol,  Preeti, VivKarrin, Amo, AlissaTierney, and Hannah

One of the things that I'm working on doing this year is actually finishing up projects as I come across them as I reorganize and go through things in my stash and my mom's stash.  This month that has meant I've worked on the following projects:

First up was working with some remnants of outdoor upholstery fabric bought several years ago.  These had never made it into the box with the rest of the upholstery remnants and fabric that I bought years ago for tote bags.   Size of the bags vary and were determined by the size of the remnant.   Plans are to donate the bags to a charity that works with low income women that I frequently donate to.

1 bag made from this fun butterfly print

One bag from this lovely teal floral print.
Had two pieces of this grey floral, so two bags were made.
Next up were these two zippered bags.   The fabric was a pre-quilted fabric with a fun rainbow stripe on the reverse side.  Zippers from the stash were used and the bottoms were boxed so they'd stand up.   Haven't decided if I'll keep these or give them as gifts at some point.
Part of the fabric had a misprint so I covered that up with some white ribbon, and then used that on the inside of the second bag.

Gratitudes:
1. 2nd 5K race is in the books.

2. Weather is cooling off which is good as I up my walking so that I can continue to lose weight.

ScrapHappy - May 2024

Welcome to ScrapHappy!   I'm glad to have you stop by and see what I've been doing with scraps this month.    Also don't forget to check out what the others have been doing as well.

KateGun, EvaSue, Lynda, Birthe, Turid, Tracy, JanMoira, SandraChrisAlysClaireJeanDawnGwen, Sunny, Kjerstin, Sue L,  Vera, Ann, Dawn2, Carol,  Preeti, VivKarrin, Amo, AlissaLynn, Tierney and Hannah

First up, this month I used up most of the remaining novelty print rectangles.  The only ones left are those that are directional prints.  Border print used was the leftover fabric from a long ago scrub top.

The strips at an angle made from cotton single fold bias tape from my stash. I plan on donating this top.

Next up was finishing this top.  The center part had been finished for a couple of years.   I pulled a remnant of fabric from my stash to use for the striped border.   The yellow perfectly matched the yellow used in the center of the quilt.  A leftover pieced of white was cut into the white cornerstones of the border.   This will be donated.
My hand project this month, in memory of a dear friend (Susan N.) who passed away the end of April, was to start working on this square again.  Pieced with scraps from my CQ fabric stash (linens, silks, batiks, and specialty cottons), this top was started as a way to finally finish up a favorite piece of cross-stitch.  I'd gotten the left-hand tree done with an owl charm added this month, flowering vine around the kitten, and the big branch at the top.  First up was finishing the leaves with scraps of embroidery floss, and beading the hanging clusters of flowers with some of the many beads that I have.  Leftover bits from the left tree had me adding a tree branch at the bottom with a birds nest that I added 2 fresh water pearls to as eggs.  Final bit to be added has been decided for that bottom right corner.  This will be also used as my project for a blog hop in June with a bird theme. Hence the additions so far, with more to come.
While not my piecing, I couldn't resist posting pics of the next two quilts that were found in a box in the garage this month as I was working with my girlfriend to get things underway out there.   I think they were pieced by my mom, but with a mixture of scraps from her mom and her own scraps.   They are double sided, no batting.   Fabric is all polyester and finish out to a double size.
And finally, lots of scrap is being generated as the work at the house I inherited last year gets underway.   Kitchen counters has been dismantled and all the scrap is waiting to be hauled off.  Pantry shelves have been taken down, next up is the ruined drywall (old water damage in there) and removing the floor tiles in this area.   Bathrooms are then on the horizon for remediation as well.
Gratitudes:
1. Work on the house is finally underway.   Lord willing I'll be able to live in the house by the end of June without too many surprises along the way.

2. For another round of commissions that will help pay for extra goodies that aren't in the budget presently.

White Rabbit Blog Hop - My day

The White Rabbit Hop is here and today is my day for posting.

Well I had great plans for using this panel to make a baby quilt and then making a matching stuffed bunny to match from a polka dotted fabric with the perfect colors in it to match the panel....and I still plan to do so in the future.   However, I realized I was not going to have time to do this project and still make the deadlines for 2 other projects that are in process presently.

What I have tho are these cute little beaded bunny ornaments that are perfect for the new year and for the spring season. These were finished last year and are all from Mill Hill kits.
Stitching on this lovely little fellow was finished just after the first of this year.  He still needs to be finished off like the others.

Stitching has also been started on this final, adventurous white rabbit.   Stitching should be finished this week on him.

Don't forget to check out the remaining bloggers on this hop.

Rose Pink Blog Hop - My Day

Welcome to my day on the Rose Pink blog hop.   This blog hop was to have one or more of the following things featured in our post - Rose/ Pink fabric, Eyeglasses, Roses, and / or Positive Words.    My project for this hop was started many years ago, and two of the 4 characteristics for the hop - pink fabric and positive words.

This was the quilt that I chose to finish for the blog hop.   The quilt top is the result of a block hop that I was in maybe 8-10 years ago.  I participated in it with 4 quilt friends from an online quilt list that I'm a part of.   When it came time to make a starting block I decided to use a cross-stitch piece I had stitched way back when in 1990 and used it as my starting point for pulling fabrics that I sent for others to use if they wanted to use them.

The top was put together not long after I got the blocks and then it sat in my UFO tote.   When I pulled it out, I decided that I didn't like how I had done the borders.   So the first thing I did was to take the three borders off, and then put what had been the second border back onto the quilt.

Close-up of the cross-stitch piece.   Definitely was my oldest UFO.   I'm glad to have it finally totally finished.

One of the blocks added by a friend.
Final finished quilt.   The blocks that were made by my friends include the following:
* The paper-pieced star in the top right, the star used as a label were made by Jane.
* Susan W made the checkerboard strips ad the trip around the world block
* Sue W made the wise men gifts and the embroidered verse block
* Linda L made the celtic know strip, the quarter-square and half-square triangle strips.
I added the remainder of the blocks.  The border used the final scraps of the fabrics I had sent out for the original swap.
Final block from one of the gals was used as the label for the quilt.   Binding fabric and backing were both from my stash

Gratitudes:
1. I'm thankful that while most of my commissions at this point are handwork (cross-stitch and repair work on quilts), that I've had time to work on some of my own projects.

2. For the time that I spend in helping my dad.

2023 - Status of the Cross-Stitch Stash and first finishes for the year

After working through to make sure that I have everything listed in my quilting/cross-stitch spreadsheet for this year here has given me the following stats for what I've got on hand:

  • 187 assorted kits
    • 35 are beaded ornaments
    • 152 cross-stitch or embroidery kits
  • 129 assorted UFO's
    • 28 are beaded ornaments
    • 101 are cross-stitch or embroidery pieces, finished sizes range from about 3" square to 11" by 14" or larger

I've already started working on finishing up some of the cross-stitch UFO's that have been stitched for years (at least 10+ years ago!). So far this year I've finished up a 18 beaded ornaments that I had stitched at least 10 years ago and never finished.  Most are for Christmas, but some are spring themed.   Still have 7or 8 more to finish up.

Numbers above will change slightly as the three kits I've ordered arrive.   These will be worked up as gifts for Christmas gifts this year. Aiming to make more progress on getting things into finished pieces this year amidst everything else on my plate.

Gratitudes:

1. For finally having the time to make progress on the cheerleader quilt and for it going well.

2. For the rain over the weekend and today that made pulling weeds this afternoon easier.   Still have more to go tho.

2022 -- Cross-Stitch Wrap-Up

Lots of cross-stitch pieces were done this year, especially compared to the last few years.  This little 3" square hedgehog was finished early in the year.   Still thinking about how I'll use it.
This piece finishes out to about 5" by 7".   Will use it to make a mini wall-hanging for friends who have a pet-sitting business in Texas.
This little 3" square piece was finished mid-year.   Still thinking about how I'll use it.  Might make a little ornament out of it....or?   Anyone have ideas on what I could make from it.
This little 3" square piece was finished mid-year.   Still thinking about how I'll use it.
Old world Santa Ornament done on perforated paper.   Finished off and mounted on green wool felt.
This little 3" square piece was finished mid-year.   Still thinking about how I'll use it.
Saw this kit in a store and couldn't resist it because of the snail.   I'll finish it off as a
This was a little kit that stitched out at 3" square.   I finished it as a little ornament and gave to a friend for Christmas in 2022.
Finished the stitching off on this piece.   I'm planning on finishing off and giving it to a friend for a birthday gift in 2023.
These little ornaments have cross-stitch and beading.   All were kits by Mill House Beads.   They were stitched many years ago, probably 10+ to the best of my memory.    I trimmed the perforated paper they were stitched on and then glued them to wool felt to finish them off.

I finished these 11 Christmas ornaments in December.   These were all stitched years ago, one of them was dated 1999!   About time I got them finished.   I machine button-holed stitched them to a wool felt backing to finish them off.

Gratitudes:

1.

Cross-Stitch Finishes - November 2022

More cross-stitch pieces have finally been made into finished items.   In this case, 5 mini pieces that I stitched years ago are now finished off as Christmas ornaments.   These will be given to friends as gifts this year.
This little cutie was stitched and finished off as an ornament for a friend.   I forgot to take a pic of the finished ornament.
This piece will eventually be finished into a mini wall-hanging for myself.

Standings on my cross-stitch -
Started the month with 116 cross-stitch kits of various sizes and 13 Booklets with pieces I want to stitch

Finished stitching two of them..........and then bought 2 more.

So I remain at the 116 kits to stitch up.

Gratitudes:

1.  For the bad case of bronchitis I've been fighting almost being gone

2. For the beautiful Bernina sewing/embroidery machine that a quilt friend gave me 10 days ago when I was in TX for a very short weekend.

Cross-Stitch Finishes - September and October 2022

I've been working on several of the umpteen cross-stitch kits that I have around here.   And have managed to finish up quite a few over the last month.

The Love is  will become a table mat/mini wallhanging, Santa will become an ornament, the rest will end up in some of my quilted postcards at some point.

Gratitudes:
1. I was able to get things taken care of for the background check today.

2. The weather has finally started cooling off here in AZ.

UFO's From My Mom's Stash - Part 3

The remainder of the cross-stitch UFO's I brought home from my April trip included these larger pieces.   There were several smaller ones that will end up being used in a quilted postcard at some point.   I forgot to take pics of them tho before putting them away in the appropriate totes.

this one was embroidered from a stamped piece.   It'll end up in a quilted postcard piece at some point.

Not sure what I'll do with most of these, but then again that is true of all the cross-stitch UFO's that I've created over the years.
Cross and verse
The Tennessee piece on the left will be finished at some point into something for my dad because that is where he was born and grew up.
I'm thinking the piece on the right might end up being finished into a small wall-hanging for a friend.
love this one....
2 Oriental jars
I come by my tendency to create UFO's naturally - the cat on the left is dated on the collar tag.   My mom finished it in 1989....lol.

not sure why this shows darker on the bottom half of the pic, it really is a white back ground.

Gratitudes:

1. To have these pieces of my mom's handiwork

2. For the many blessings that are in my life in spite of all that has happened over the last 18 months
