Improv Challenge Blocks 4 & 5

Two more blocks in the challenge have been completed -

 Block 4 - should have been block 3 but I never got the email on it.   Basis was triangles.

This one started with 4 UFO orphan block parts that had just the first two sides added to them in half-log cabin style.    I free-form added triangles.  Then added the sashing between the units.   White was added to the block on two sides, with green triangles added free-style to the corner.

21 different fabrics in this block.

Block 5 - theme was gentle curves.

I started this block off with the orange & yellow piece.   It was an orphan block made from the leftover ends of several strip sets.  Curves were added by piecing in the green and WOW fabrics.  The WOW was inadvertently cut upside down so the wrong side of it is on the right side of the block....oops....oh well.

And yes that is an inset corner at the top - I fed all pieces cut out as I made the curves back into the block to make it large enough.

Two more blocks to go in the challenge, but I'm planning on making 12 blocks so that I can put them together in a toddler sized quilt.

Gratitudes:

1. Thinking positive that my counts will still be up when I see the doc tomorrow afternoon.

2. For the PT job that I'm working from home, even tho I still don't know how much I'm making per hour....lol.  (I do know I'll get paid...just not how much per hour.)

Triangle Challenge Quilt

Saw a challenge that designer, Pat Sloan, had posted at this link, and couldn't resist making a quilt to enter the challenge.

As it happened I had half of the half-square triangles (HST's) needed to make the challenge block already made and trimmed to size.   The center block was also already complete and waiting for a project that called for it.   All of the fabrics and HST's were made from the scraps of a prior project.

The blocks made for this challenge are the ones around the outside of the quilt and the quilt that inspired this one is the Boden Quilt that Pat Sloan designed.

Finished size at this point is 40" square.  I haven't decided on whether to put one more border on the quilt or not...And if I do add one, do I make it solid or checkerboard or something else?   At this point I think I'll leave it as is.  It is definitely large enough for a baby quilt, although not quite traditional colors for one.  Would also work for a small lap quilt.

1. Am feeling much better today.   Thankful for small favors.

2. The weather outside is beautiful, even if a bit windy.

More Sunshine Challenge Quilts

Still working my way through the challenge blocks from Sunshine. I've finished off another 4 tops and have used a total of 92 blocks out of the 123 that I started with. =) Blocks in these tops were by Carol E, Betty H, Carol M, and Shirlee G. I've enjoyed playing with these blocks, and am planning to offer another challenge with the remaining inherited fall & halloween fabs once I've moved to IN later this summer. =) Pics of the quilts are below.

Gratitudes:
1. Registration for the Fall semester is done and I've been able to get into all of the classes I'm supposed to take!

2. The cooler weather yesterday and today here in N. TX.

Sunshine Challenge blocks

A couple of yrs ago (2008 I think it was) I issued a challenge to everyone that was a part of the Sunshine Quilts yahoo list............the challenge consisted of those who wanted to 'play' taking one (or more) of a bunch of FQ's that I had inherited from a quilting friend after she passed away. They were then to take the fabric and make 9" finished blocks and send the blocks to me. I would then put the blocks together into finished quilt tops. The tops would then be donated to Sunshine and would go to kids around the world.

Well with all of the turmoil of the past couple of yrs, I'm just now getting the blocks put together into tops. So far I've used 35 blocks out of the 123 that I received. Pics below are of the 4 tops that I've finished so far............. Blocks used in the quilts below came from Susan N. and Lori A.
