ScrapHappy February 2024

 This month's scrappy sewing has been to work with some of the many inches of string strips that I made last month.   I continued working with the blue string strips to make the blocks that I needed for the main part of this quilt. 

The blocks were easy to make, but several of the last few ended up with corners that were a little wonky in spite of my best efforts.   Oh well....it is what it is.  =) 

Still to come is the border.  That will start with using the last 4 of the red/cream HST's that I have.  Still thinking about what else to do.

After getting the blocks finished, I then dealt with the bits and pieces that were cut off when trimming off the corners after doing the final seams.  Ended up with 20 - 2.5" unfinished HST's that will get used in another project and 4 scrappy sections for future postcards.

White Rabbit Blog Hop - My day

 The White Rabbit Hop is here and today is my day for posting.

Well I had great plans for using this panel to make a baby quilt and then making a matching stuffed bunny to match from a polka dotted fabric with the perfect colors in it to match the panel....and I still plan to do so in the future.   However, I realized I was not going to have time to do this project and still make the deadlines for 2 other projects that are in process presently.   

What I have tho are these cute little beaded bunny ornaments that are perfect for the new year and for the spring season. These were finished last year and are all from Mill Hill kits.

Stitching on this lovely little fellow was finished just after the first of this year.  He still needs to be finished off like the others.

Stitching has also been started on this final, adventurous white rabbit.   Stitching should be finished this week on him.

1. Weather here in TX is warm enough for rain, not ice at present.  Gives me hope that I'll make my flight back home without too much delay this evening.

ScrapHappy January 2024

 December was apparently a 'blue mood' month because all my scrap sewing was done with fabrics I pulled out of the Dk blue scrap bag when I needed to do something that didn't require a lot of thinking.  

First up was this walker bag that I'd been commissioned to make for a friends 91 year-old dad.  Made w/o a pattern, but based on approximate measurements that she gave me and how I normally make my bags.   This finished at approximately 12" square and 2 inches wide.   It has batting in it.   All fabrics were out of my scrap stash, lining was a remnant.   Straps for hanging were the cuffs I'd cut off of a shirt that I repurposed.

While pulling the scraps for the walker bag I went through and pulled all of the short pieces, and those that were narrow or weren't prints that I hadn't used in forever to do string piecing on adding machine tape.  I measured the length in the strips shown in this picture and total pieced length is almost 960 inches.

These strips finished off all the oddball scraps, and there is between 350 and 400 inches in these.   I think I might have enough for a couple of quilts....lol.

Still to be done is to trim these strips down to a consistent 3" or 3.5" width and figure out what I want to do with them.  I do have an idea for these, but need to do some sketching to see how things would look before sewing.

I've also gone through the light blue and teal/turquoise blue scraps and pulled out the small scraps and strips.   And they are now sew together now.

ScrapHappy - December 2023

 Welcome everyone to ScrapHappy day when we post about what we are doing with scraps.

I'm hoping going to be able to move into my dad's house at some point in the first quarter of next year.   And trying to think ahead for that move, I decided I really needed to get rid of some of the accumulated boxes and fabric I'd kept from the last several t-shirt quilts I'd made.  I'd kept sleeves and backs with the intention of turning the extra fabric into donation quilts..........never happened.   

In the cleaning out of the t-shirt leftovers, I also found the sleeves of several denim shirts that were leftover from a commission done early in the year.  All were long sleeves so I had lots of fabric to work with.  I cut them up into 5" squares and then paired them with 2 sets of novelty print 5" charms that I'd cut from scraps in my stash years ago.   Haven't decided what I'm going to do with these yet, and they will get quilted at some point.

The Life of Grammy

I'm not one who does a lot of baking, ok, any at all if I'm being honest.  I have made a couple of cakes that I love in the past, but cookies have never really been on a to-do list for me.

However, over the years I've made a lot of my gifts.   This year has been no different.   I did, however, do so with the theme of making an ornament for everyone.   I made up Mill Hill beaded ornaments, chosen to fit what each person likes.  For the most part these were cross-stitched and beaded on perforated paper, and then backed with wool felt.   1/8th ribbon was used to make a hanging loop for them.

This little mermaid was from a free chart found on Pinterest and was made for an adopted niece who is into mermaids at this time.

The remaining ornaments made were from Mill Hill kits.

These are for a mixture of friends in Indiana, Idaho and Phoenix.

Snowflakes are for a friend in Indiana, the other two for friends here in Phoenix.

More were made, but the friends they are for read my blog and I want them to be surprised when they get them, so I'm not posting them here.  =)
